Cow Crossing

Border of Arkansas and Missouri

This picture was taken on a foggy morning as the sun slowly rose, the aroma of autumn wafted past, and the last lingering leaves drifted from trees with bare branches. The fall harvesters have finished, leaving this Missouri backroad lined with stubbled fields. The first time I saw the crossing, cows were meandering across the tracks while the engineer patiently held the train, allowing them to move safely to the other side. The cows failed to appear on subsequent trips back with my camera. I am still waiting for the cows and train to converge once again.
